TRIP INSURANCE

Trip and travel insurance is generally recommended for full protection of your time at the St. Maximilian Retreat House. If you do not purchase trip insurance, you will be self-insuring your trip.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND POLICIES

SMOKING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED ANYWHERE INSIDE BUILDINGS INCLUDING THE MAIN HOUSE AND CABINS. Please respect our cabins and the guests who will be at the cabin following your departure. If smoke is detected by our housekeeping staff, we will notify you immediately and if remediation is required any costs will be charged to you. You may smoke outdoors on the deck. Please dispose of cigarette butts in a trash container. Please do not throw butts over the dock or into the lake. Again, we just ask for your respect and mindfulness toward fire safety.

EXCEEDING THE MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY IS GROUNDS FOR EVICTION. If the number of guests on the property exceeds our agreement, you risk being evicted.

WHAT WE PROVIDE: Your rental includes basic beds, pillows and mattresses. There are no bath towels provided. There’s is most likely a courtesy supply of toilet paper, tissue paper, napkins, plastic cups, and paper towels. Please be environmentally conscientious. However, please bring an extra supply of toiletry and galley consumables. We have provided a kettle and various pots and pans for basic cooking and heating. We provide a portable range element for exterior cooking. We provide hand soap, liquid dish soap, and basic cleaning supplies.

NOTIFICATION OF OWNER: If you find that something is not operating correctly, appears damaged or needs housekeeping attention, you agree to notify us of the situation promptly. We will make every attempt to repair or correct the situation as promptly as possible, depending on the nature of the situation.

If repairs are required, you agree to provide access to the property and pets must be secured.

VISITORS: All undeclared guests (those not on your lease) must be approved in advance. Please contact us if you plan to have friends or family stopping by for the day or overnight. As long as the occupancy of the facilities is not exceeded overnight, we are usually fine with guest visits. We just need to make sure there is adequate parking and that there is no risk of any nuisance to the neighbourhood.

WATER OR ELECTRICITY OUTAGES: If basic utilities such as water or electricity experience a lengthy outage of more than eight (8) hours, we will refund the portion of your stay that is impacted by the outage. These situations are extremely rare but we want you to know that we will do everything possible to address the outage promptly with your comfort and safety in mind.

PET STAYS: We offer a pet-friendly environment, but all pet stays must be disclosed and approved in advance. If we are notified that unapproved animals have been found at the rental, you risk being evicted from the property. Please pick up after your pet and dispose of waste wrapped in a bag and placed outside of buildings. Pets may not be left on the deck, dock or tied outside while you are gone. If your pet causes damage to the property, you agree to pay for repairs or replacement of property.

BOATING: Several aluminum boats are provided with paddles and oars. The maximum capacity for each boat is 6 persons.

You are responsible for the safety of all passengers by ensuring life jackets are worn and safe boating practices are followed. Ensure you bring a boating safety kit with you on all excursions. The kits include a flashlight, rope, anchor and bail bucket.

Always check the weather report before you head out. When you see bad weather coming, head home early. Never assume that you can outrun a storm. Avoid boating at night, saving a person who falls overboard at night is very difficult.

If you would like to use the electrical trolling and battery, there is an additional charge for use. Electric motor mounting and operating instructions must be closely followed. Battery handling and charging instructions must also be followed. Ontario laws require the operator to possess a valid motor boating license. You can obtain the motorboating license online for about $50.

FISH CLEANING AND STORING: We recommend you eat what is caught while it is fresh. Fish cleaning is strictly not permitted inside buildings. Guests are required to clean up premises where fish was being cleaned. Fish freezing is prohibited using the refrigerator within the main cottage house. Fish can only be stored outside of all buildings. If you are avid about returning home with many fish, we recommend you bring a portable cooler and dry ice packs.

COOKING: Please use the kitchen range and oven for reheating food, boiling and baking only. Use of the kitchen range pan-frying or greasy cooking is strictly prohibited. If you would like to pan-fry, please use a portable electric range outside. The portal range can be placed on the wooden table on the deck and plugged into a receptacle located on both sides of the deck.

COMMUNITY RULES: Guests agree to abide by community rules and not to cause a nuisance to any neighbours by their actions, noise, pets or other. You risk being evicted if neighbours call the police to complain about nuisances. Remember that there are permanent residents living in the area and you must respect their rights. House parties are not permitted and will be cause for immediate eviction.

THEFT OR LOSS OF PROPERTY: You are solely responsible for all personal items brought to the property. Please secure valuables while you are gone by placing them out of view. Our property insurance will not cover items brought into the cabin by outside parties. When you are away from the cabin, check that all doors are locked. We recommend that electronics and valuables are not left out in view.

DAMAGE FEES: We understand that “things happen” and do make allowances for minor damages. However extensive or environmental damages cannot be overlooked.

If a guest leaves fishing line or tackle in the water, a clean-up of approximately $100 will be applied. Lead weights left in the lake will pollute the water and destroy wildlife.

If a guest disposes non-biodegradable and septic-incompatible items into the toilet or drains, a maintenance call will be required, with a minimum charge of $200. Non-biodegradable and septic-incompatible items include hygiene products, plastics, metal, cigarettes, and glass.

Damage to the property by pets (or guests) will be charged according to the cost of repairs and we will provide you with a copy of the actual receipt.

YOUR ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE MEANS YOU AGREE TO ALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND WILL PAY ANY DAMAGES OR FEES WITHIN 10 BUSINESS DAYS OF NOTIFICATION.

MINIMUM AGE FOR LEASEHOLDER: We require the responsible party who signs the lease to be at least 25 years of age at the time of booking. Any reservation obtained under false pretense will be subject to forfeiture of lodging payment(s) and the party will not be permitted to check-in or evicted if already at the property.

GUEST agrees to indemnify and save the establishment, inclusive of the owner and founder, harmless from all liability, loss or damage arising from any nuisance or harm made or suffered on the leased premises by the GUEST, tenants, or guests or from any carelessness, neglect, or improper conduct of any persons entering, occupying or visiting the leased premises.

These Policies and Procedures above are meant to protect you, our guests, and the establishment. All guests are required to conform to these Policies and Procedures. We wish you to have a safe and enjoyable experience at the St. Maximilian Retreat House!
